Urumi - Mesotrione 2.27% + Atrazine 22.7% SC - Parijat
Urumi Herbicide by Parijat
Mesotrione 2.27% + Atrazine 22.7% SC for specified grass and broadleaf weeds in maize and
sugarcane.
Crop fit: Specified grass and broadleaf weeds in maize and sugarcane, with distinct
target lists.
First application: One post-emergence spray when actively growing weeds have 2–4
leaves. This is weed stage, not the crop’s leaf count.
Harvest planning: Keep the crop-specific waiting period paired with the quantity,
water and method in the application table.
Why Choose This Product? Key Benefits
-
🧩 Two herbicides in one premix: Mesotrione
and atrazine are already combined in one suspension concentrate, without separately preparing that two-product mixture.
-
🌱 Grass and broadleaf targets: Crop-specific
lists include crabgrass, crowfoot grass and Trianthema, with additional species kept to their own crop entry.
-
🔬 Two distinct action groups: HPPD
inhibition and photosystem II inhibition affect different weed processes and must both be considered in resistance planning.
-
🌿 Uptake and internal movement: The
ingredients enter through foliage and roots and move within susceptible weeds, rather than acting only where a droplet lands.
-
🎯 A defined weed-stage window: The
single-spray use is tied to actively growing weeds with 2–4 leaves, making field scouting part of application planning.

How It Works: Mode of Action
-
Ingredients enter and move within the weed: Both foliar and root uptake contribute. Mesotrione moves upward and downward; atrazine
is taken up mainly by roots and moves upward through water-conducting tissue.
-
Mesotrione inhibits HPPD: Group 27 disrupts a pathway involved in protective plant pigments, impairing normal development of
susceptible weeds.
-
Atrazine inhibits photosystem II: Group 5 interferes with photosynthesis, the process plants use to capture light energy. This is a
different target from mesotrione’s HPPD action.
Both groups count in resistance management. Two mechanisms do not guarantee control of every weed, remove
resistance risk, authorise an extra spray or establish safety on unlisted crops. No fixed kill time, duration of control or
rainfastness guarantee is implied.
Target Crops & Weeds
| Crop |
Target weeds |
|---|---|
| Maize |
Trianthema spp.; Digitaria sanguinalis; Echinochloa spp.; Dactyloctenium aegyptium |
| Sugarcane |
Trianthema spp.; Digitaria sanguinalis; Echinochloa colona; Dactyloctenium aegyptium; Amaranthus viridis |
The lists are not identical: sugarcane includes Amaranthus viridis and names Echinochloa colona, while maize
lists Echinochloa spp. Do not transfer an extra crop target, add sedges or extend the programme to another crop.

PHI is the minimum interval between the last application and harvest, not worker re-entry. Per-acre quantities
are approximate equivalents of the hectare rates. Measure by treated area; tank capacity alone does not establish the application
quantity or authorise another spray.
How to Apply: Best Practices
-
Identify crop and weeds: Match every target to the correct maize or sugarcane row. Do not infer sedge control or transfer
sugarcane’s green-amaranth entry to maize.
-
Scout for the weed stage: Apply the single post-emergence treatment while the listed weeds are actively growing with 2–4 leaves. Do
not substitute crop leaf count, an invented pre-emergence use or an automatic repeat schedule.
-
Keep the full crop row together: Measure the product and water for the treated area and retain that crop’s harvest restriction.
Check the pack separately for worker re-entry, crop sensitivity and weather directions.
-
Mix with thorough agitation: Mix the measured quantity well with a small amount of water in the sprayer tank using thorough
agitation, then add the remaining prescribed water. Work in a ventilated place and use a suitable tool, never bare hands.
-
Use even coverage and the correct nozzle: Use a knapsack sprayer with a flat-fan or flood-jet nozzle. Maintain the equipment, avoid
gaps and concentrated overlaps, and never clear a blocked nozzle with the mouth.
-
Prevent drift in suitable weather: Do not spray against the wind, in strong wind or during the hottest part of the day. Keep spray
away from adjacent crops, people and animals, and follow the pack’s weather precautions.
-
Do not assume an extra additive is needed: The formulation includes an inbuilt adjuvant. Add a wetter, oil, herbicide or other
product only when both current labels permit the proposed combination for the crop; a premix is not permission for further mixing.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Is Urumi applied before weeds emerge?
No. This programme is one post-emergence spray when actively growing weeds have 2–4 leaves. The leaf count
belongs to the weeds, not the crop.
2. Are maize and sugarcane directions identical?
Their product and water quantities match, but their weed lists and harvest waiting periods differ. Keep the
complete crop row together rather than choosing a waiting period from the other crop.
3. Can I add another herbicide or surfactant?
Only if both current labels permit the added product and proposed combination for the crop. Urumi already
contains two herbicides and an inbuilt adjuvant; neither fact authorises another additive.
4. Can I use a hollow-cone nozzle instead?
The stated setup is a knapsack sprayer with a flat-fan or flood-jet nozzle for uniform coverage. Do not
assume an insecticide-spray setup is interchangeable.
5. Does systemic activity mean rain cannot affect the treatment?
No. Follow the current pack’s weather directions and allow the required uptake period. Do not assume rain
immediately after spraying is harmless or automatically repeat the treatment after rain.
Safety & Disclaimer
Before you use it: Read the current Urumi label and leaflet before handling. Use only the permitted
crop, weed, quantity and method, observe its harvest interval, and follow protective-equipment, mixing, crop-sensitivity,
first-aid, re-entry, storage, cleaning and disposal directions.
Wear the required protective clothing and equipment, including gloves and label-specified face protection.
Avoid breathing spray and prevent contact with mouth, eyes and skin. Do not eat, drink, smoke or chew while handling or spraying.
Wash thoroughly after work and wash contaminated clothing separately.
Keep the original labelled container closed and secure, away from children, animals, food, feed, water and
fire. Prevent spray, surplus mixture and equipment washings from contaminating wells, ponds, streams or irrigation channels.
Maintain the equipment and prevent drift.
Wash contaminated skin promptly with plenty of water and change contaminated clothing. Seek medical help
immediately after exposure or illness and take the pack or leaflet; do not improvise medical treatment.
