Sumitomo Dantotsu Clothianidin 50% WDG Insecticide

Dantotsu is a systemic insecticide from Sumitomo Chemical India containing Clothianidin 50% WDG. Its registered Indian uses include rice brown plant hopper, cotton sucking pests, sugarcane termites and tea mosquito bug.

Clothianidin belongs to IRAC Group 4A, the neonicotinoid subgroup of nicotinic acetylcholine receptor competitive modulators. The active ingredient is taken up by susceptible insects through feeding or contact and acts on their nervous system. Its systemic movement helps protect treated plant tissue when the product is used exactly as directed on the current label.

Important: Crop, pest, dose, water volume, application method and waiting period differ. Do not copy a foliar-spray rate to a soil drench or use one crop's directions on another crop.

Why farmers choose itWhy Choose Dantotsu? Key Benefits
  • Systemic activity: Clothianidin moves within treated plant tissue and supports control of label-listed sucking pests.
  • Multiple registered crop uses: The Government of India use table lists applications in rice, cotton, sugarcane and tea.
  • Foliar and soil-drench directions: The approved method depends on the crop and target pest, allowing purpose-specific application.
  • Concentrated WDG formulation: Water-dispersible granules are measured in grams and mixed only at the label rate.
  • Clear resistance group: IRAC Group 4A identification helps farmers and advisers avoid repeated reliance on the same mode of action.

Product scienceHow It Works: Mode of Action
  1. Exposure: Susceptible insects take up clothianidin through feeding or contact.
  2. Nerve-system action: Clothianidin acts at nicotinic acetylcholine receptors as an IRAC Group 4A competitive modulator.
  3. Feeding disruption: The manufacturer reports rapid suppression of pest feeding and other vital activity.

For resistance management, avoid repeated applications of Group 4A insecticides as the only control method. Where another treatment is justified, choose a separately applied product from a different IRAC group whose own current label covers the crop and pest.

How to applyDosage and Application Guide

The golden rule: Follow the current physical pack and leaflet. The Government of India rates below are expressed per hectare; do not replace them with an unverified per-litre dose.

Crop / MethodFormulation RateWater VolumePHI
Rice - foliar20-24 g/ha500 L/ha12 days
Cotton jassids - foliar30-40 g/ha500 L/ha20 days
Cotton whitefly - foliar40-50 g/ha500 L/ha20 days

Sugarcane - soil drench250 g/ha1,000 L/ha310 days
Tea - foliar120 g/ha500 L/ha5 days

PHI = pre-harvest interval. It is the minimum waiting period between the last application and harvest in the cited Government use table.

Useful detailsHow to Apply: Best Practices
  • Identify first: Confirm the crop and target pest before deciding whether treatment is justified.
  • Match the method: Foliar-spray and soil-drench rates are not interchangeable.
  • Measure accurately: Use a calibrated scale for this gram-rate WDG formulation and the label-specified water volume.
  • Coverage: For foliar directions, prepare an even suspension and maintain thorough crop coverage as stated on the pack.
  • Resistance stewardship: Avoid unnecessary repeat use of IRAC Group 4A products; integrate monitoring and non-chemical measures.
  • Safety: Wear the personal protective equipment specified on the pack. Prevent drift, contamination of water and access by children or animals.
