Sumitomo Danitol Insecticide: Product Overview

Sumitomo Danitol is an insecticide containing Fenpropathrin 10% EC. Sumitomo Chemical India’s current Danitol guidance lists crop-specific directions for important caterpillar pests in paddy and cotton. It identifies leaf folder and yellow stem borer in paddy, and pink, spotted and American bollworms in cotton.

This product is Danitol 10% EC—not Meothrin 30% EC and not Danitol NXT 10% EW. Concentration, formulation, dose and waiting-period directions are not interchangeable between those products. Always match the supplied pack to the current physical label before spraying.

Product scienceHow Fenpropathrin Works

IRAC classifies Fenpropathrin in Group 3A. Group 3A insecticides act as modulators of voltage-gated sodium channels in the pest nervous system. Disrupted nerve signalling leads to loss of coordinated movement, paralysis and death. Fast visible effects do not justify repeat use of the same group: resistance management still requires label-compliant rotation across pest generations.

The paddy figures above come from Sumitomo Chemical India’s current Danitol product guidance. Confirm that paddy and its waiting period appear on the supplied pack before use. For cotton, the national table also expresses the formulation dose as 750–1000 ml/ha in 750–1000 L water/ha. Do not calculate one universal ml-per-litre dose.

How to applyApplication & Safety Guidance
  • Timing: For paddy, Sumitomo directs use at early infestation. For cotton, it directs use at flowering for pink bollworm or early infestation of spotted or American bollworm.
  • Coverage: Mix the crop-specific quantity with the labelled water volume and achieve complete, even coverage.
  • Conditions: The company recommends spraying during cooler hours.
  • Mixing: Do not assume tank-mix compatibility. Mix only when both current labels or authorised local guidance specifically allow it.
  • PPE: Wear the protective clothing, gloves, mask, eye protection and other equipment stated on the current label.
  • Environment: Prevent drift and runoff, and follow every aquatic-life, pollinator, re-entry, storage and disposal warning on the supplied pack.
Useful detailsResistance Management

Danitol, Danitol NXT and Meothrin all contain Fenpropathrin and remain IRAC Group 3A even though their concentration or formulation differs. They are related comparisons, not different mode-of-action rotation partners. Avoid treating successive pest generations only with Group 3A products. Where separately labelled for the crop and target pest, rotate with a genuinely different IRAC group and combine chemical control with monitoring and nonchemical practices.
