Sokusai Plus works by creating a chemical barrier on the soil surface. It targets weeds at the cellular level:

  1. Absorption: The herbicide is absorbed rapidly through the shoots (coleoptiles) of germinating grasses and the roots of broad-leaf weeds.
  2. Growth Stop: It inhibits the synthesis of Very Long Chain Fatty Acids (VLCFAs), which are essential for cell division.
  3. Elimination: Without cell division, the weed seedlings fail to grow and die before they can emerge above the water level.

Note: Transplanted rice is safe because its roots are below the treated soil layer and it has a physiological tolerance to the chemical.
