Higrow - Ethephon 39% SL - HPM
Higrow Plant Growth Regulator by HPM
An ethylene-releasing plant growth regulator for specific crop-development uses. The correct purpose, crop stage and dose matter. Do not use it to dip harvested fruit in ethephon solution or let the chemical contact fruit directly for artificial ripening.
Composition: Ethephon 39% SL.
Purpose: Crop-specific growth regulation, not insect or fungal-disease control.
Food-safety warning: No direct chemical contact with harvested fruit for artificial ripening.
Why Choose This Product? Key Benefits
- 🌿Defined growth signal: Ethephon releases ethylene, which affects plant development.
- 🌸Flowering uses: HPM lists separate mango and pineapple flower-induction programmes.
- ☕Coffee distinction: Arabica and Robusta are not treated as one interchangeable rate.
- 🌳Rubber use: Latex-flow stimulation has its own dilution basis and method checks.
- 📋Purpose-specific planning: Separates crop-development treatments from restricted post-harvest practices.

How It Works
Ethephon releases ethylene in plant tissues. Ethylene is a natural plant signal involved in processes such as flowering, ripening and leaf separation, but the response depends strongly on crop and growth stage.
- Correct crop and stage: Identify the exact developmental purpose and confirm the label stage before treatment.
- Ethylene is released: The active ingredient releases a signal that can alter plant development.
- Crop-specific response: The response varies with the crop, dose, maturity and growing conditions; one programme cannot be transferred to another.
This is not a general nutrient tonic or a guaranteed yield booster. A wrong dose or stage can produce unwanted growth effects. Do not borrow a rubber paste, other-brand, or post-harvest dipping programme.
Crops & Growth-Regulation Uses
HPM’s product page and older 2019 manual list the following six crop groups and purposes. The older manual adds pomegranate and separates the coffee types. Flagged uses require further checks and are not complete treatment instructions.
| Crop | Growth-regulation use |
|---|---|
| Mango |
|
| Pineapple |
|
| Coffee |
|
| Rubber |
|
| Tomato |
|
| Pomegranate |
|
Post-harvest mango and tomato listings are shown only to flag the safety limit. FSSAI’s April 2026 advisory warns against dipping fruits in ethephon solution; direct contact of the ripening chemical with fruit or vegetables is not permitted.
Application Guide
Most product rates below are explicit references from HPM’s older 2019 manual, not a current Higrow label. Rubber’s dilution basis and pomegranate’s harvest interval are separately identified 2025 CIBRC formulation references. Do not apply a flagged or incomplete programme without the exact current pack.
Crop-purpose references and important restrictions
| Crop / purpose | Product reference | Water reference | Waiting period / restriction | Method / notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mango A* | 308–410 ml/acre* | 600–800 L* | Confirm* | See note* |
| Mango B* | 1538–2051 ml/acre* | 600–800 L* | Confirm* | See note* |
| Pineapple* | 154–205 ml/acre* | 600–800 L* | Confirm* | See note* |
| Robusta coffee* | 86–114 ml/acre* | 600–800 L* | Confirm* | See note* |
| Arabica coffee* | Confirm* | Confirm* | Confirm* | See note* |
| Rubber* | 26 ml/10 L water* | 10 L* | Confirm* | See note* |
| Pomegranate* | 400–500 ml/acre* | 200 L* | 135 days* | See note* |
| Post-harvest* | No recipe* | No fruit dipping* | See note* | See note* |
A blank or unverified waiting period is not zero days. The pomegranate 135-day interval is a 2025 generic formulation reference and must be confirmed against the current Higrow label. Mango A is alternate-bearing management: confirm tree condition, crop stage and route. Mango B is juvenile flower induction, a different purpose that must not use the lower mango rate. Pineapple is flower induction: confirm plant age, stage and route. Robusta and Arabica coffee entries are for uniform ripening; the Robusta rate must not be used as the Arabica rate, which remains held pending the exact current pack rate. Rubber is latex-flow stimulation, not an acre-rate programme, and its application method must be verified. Pomegranate is defoliation: confirm current crop authorisation and stage. “Post-harvest” means the mango and tomato listings; no direct fruit-contact recipe, DIY chamber programme or fruit-dipping programme is supplied, and current food-safety directions apply.
* HPM’s field-crop water column states litres without an explicit area basis; confirm coverage before mixing. The rubber 26 ml/10 L reference is a concentration, not an acre dose or a complete bark-treatment method. The impossible Arabica range in the HPM manual is not repaired by guessing. The numeric mango, pineapple, Robusta coffee and pomegranate rates are older HPM manual references. Confirm the current label for all unverified waiting periods; the separately identified 135-day pomegranate interval is not a verified current Higrow label direction.
No direct-contact fruit-ripening, homemade gas-generation or ripening-chamber recipe is provided. Current crop stage, application route, repeat limits, maximum applications, re-entry and mixing instructions require the exact supplied label and applicable food-safety requirements.
How to Apply: Best Practices
- Choose the precise purpose: Match crop, variety or coffee type, growth stage and intended developmental response to the supplied label.
- Confirm the complete programme: Check the rate, dilution basis, route and waiting period; do not apply unresolved Arabica or post-harvest directions.
- Measure and apply only as labelled: Follow current equipment, mixing and weather instructions. Do not transfer the lower mango rate to juvenile flower induction.
- Protect people and produce: Use label-required protection and prevent drift. Do not dip harvested fruit in the chemical or create an unverified ripening setup.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Higrow an insecticide? No. It is an ethephon plant growth regulator. It is not a substitute for insect or disease control.
Can I dip harvested mangoes or tomatoes in it?No. FSSAI warns against ethephon-solution dipping and direct chemical contact for artificial ripening. This guide supplies no such recipe.
Are all mango purposes treated at the same rate? No. Alternate-bearing management and juvenile flower induction are separate programmes. The exact current label must confirm the appropriate one.
Can I use the Robusta rate for Arabica coffee? No. HPM lists them separately, and the Arabica dose range in the older manual is defective. Confirm the current pack rather than guessing.
Is the rubber dilution an acre dose or a full treatment method? No. The cited 2025 formulation reference is 26 ml in 10 L water. It does not establish current Higrow application area, bark route or repeat schedule.
Safety & Disclaimer
Before you use it, read the supplied label and leaflet. Match the crop, target, product dose, method, water volume and waiting period. The current pack directions and local restrictions take priority over this product overview. For artificial ripening, do not dip harvested fruits or vegetables in ethephon solution or allow direct contact with the chemical. Follow current FSSAI directions; this product overview does not authorise a ripening facility or procedure.
Wear the protective equipment required on the label. Avoid skin and eye contact, breathing spray or dust, and contamination of food or feed. Keep children, other people and animals away during treatment and for the label’s re-entry period.
Keep the product in its original closed container away from food, feed, children and animals. Prevent spray drift, spills and washings from reaching water. Never reuse empty pesticide containers; follow the label and local disposal rules. Seek medical help promptly after exposure and show the label.
