EGAO works on the nervous system of the insect. It is primarily a stomach poison (works when eaten) but also works on contact.

  1. Ingestion: The caterpillar eats the treated leaf. The chemical enters its gut.
  2. Paralysis: It locks the pest's nerve channels open, causing immediate paralysis (flaccid paralysis).
  3. Starvation: The insect stops feeding within 2 hours. Although it may stay alive for 2-4 days, it cannot damage the crop and eventually dies.

Note: Do not panic if you see live worms the next day. As long as they are not eating, the medicine is working.

  • Timing: Apply in the late evening. EGAO is sensitive to sunlight. Spraying at night allows the chemical to penetrate the leaf fully before the sun comes up.
  • Mixing: Always use a silicon-based Spreader/Sticker (Adjuvant). This spreads the droplet over waxy leaves (like Cabbage) for better results.
  • Coverage: Use at least 200 liters of water per acre. Good coverage is essential because the pest must ingest the leaf.
