Cigna Insecticide by Syngenta

Lufenuron 5.4% w/w EC for the specified caterpillar, borer and pod-fly pests.

What it controls: Diamondback moth in cabbage and cauliflower, and the named borer or pod-fly pests in pigeon pea, cotton, black gram and chilli.

When to start: At first pest appearance. Cabbage also has a 30-days-after-transplanting first-treatment option.

How it acts: Interferes with the outer covering that immature insects need to grow and moult.

Why Choose This Product? Key Benefits

  • 🐛  Disrupts immature insect growth: Prevents susceptible larvae from forming their new outer covering and completing normal moulting.
  • 🥬  Diamondback moth control: Targets diamondback moth in both cabbage and cauliflower.
  • 🌱  Crop-specific borer control: Targets pigeon-pea pod borer, cotton American bollworm, black-gram pod borers and chilli fruit borers. Pigeon pea also has a separate pod-fly use.

How It Works: Mode of Action

Cigna is an insect growth inhibitor. It acts during the development of susceptible immature insects rather than promising immediate adult knockdown.

  1. Crop coverage: Spray places the treatment on the crop at the required pest timing.
  2. Outer-covering formation: Lufenuron blocks production of chitin, a material insects need for their outer covering.
  3. Moulting: Affected larvae cannot form their new covering normally, interrupting growth from one stage to the next.

Lufenuron belongs to IRAC Group 15. Another lufenuron brand is still the same group; use crop-specific resistance-management advice for later treatments.

Dosage & Application Guide

Use the first-treatment timing in each row. All six crops use 600 ml of formulated product per hectare, but water volumes and harvest intervals differ.

Acre values are approximate conversions of the original hectare rates. PHI is the minimum time between the last application and harvest.

Where further treatment is needed, repeat 2–3 sprays at 10–15-day intervals according to pest intensity and the supplied label. A later spray starts a new crop-specific harvest interval.

How to Apply: Best Practices

  • Check the crop and pest: Identify the named target and use the first-treatment timing for that crop.
  • Measure the area: Use the complete product and water requirement for the area treated. The 600 ml/ha figure measures commercial Cigna, not pure lufenuron.
  • Mix with agitation: Premix the measured product with a little water, then add the remaining required water with thorough agitation. Use a stick, not bare hands.
  • Choose suitable equipment: Use a calibrated knapsack, compression-knapsack, battery-operated or power-operated sprayer for total crop coverage.
  • Protect bees and water: Do not spray when bees are active. Prevent drift and keep leftovers and washings out of streams, ponds and other waterways.
  • Use fresh spray: Do not store unused spray solution. Wash sprayers, buckets and utensils with water after use.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Does Cigna give immediate adult knockdown?

It is a growth inhibitor that interferes with the new outer covering of immature insects. Assess control by monitoring the target pest, not by expecting immediate adult mortality.

2. Are cabbage and cauliflower directions identical?

Both use 600 ml/ha in 500 L/ha water, but cabbage has a 14-day PHI and cauliflower a 5-day PHI. Cabbage also has the 30-days-after-transplanting first-treatment option.

3. Can I use one harvest interval for every crop?

No. Use 14 days for cabbage, 5 for cauliflower, 65 for pigeon pea, 48 for cotton, 10 for black gram and 5 for chilli, counted from the last application.

4. How do I measure the quantity for a tank?

Measure the field area covered by the calibrated sprayer first. Tank capacity alone does not establish the product quantity or the crop’s water requirement.

5. Can I mix Cigna with another pesticide?

Only combine Cigna with another product when both current labels permit the proposed mixture. Use on the same crop does not itself establish compatibility.
