IIL Centran: Product Overview

IIL Centran is a granular insecticide containing Chlorantraniliprole 0.35% + Fipronil 0.35% GR. Its verified Indian registration is for control of stem borer and leaf folder in paddy/rice.

Centran combines two insect modes of action. Chlorantraniliprole is an IRAC Group 28 ryanodine-receptor modulator that disrupts calcium regulation in insect muscles. Fipronil is an IRAC Group 2B GABA-gated chloride-channel blocker that disrupts nerve signalling. The two groups are already present together in the premix; this does not eliminate resistance risk or justify adding another insecticide.

This is a broadcast granule, not a foliar spray. The registered use table states 10 kg formulation per hectare, supplying 35 g Chlorantraniliprole and 35 g Fipronil per hectare, and specifies broadcasting after mixing with sand. It also gives a 65-day pre-harvest interval.

Why farmers choose itWhy Choose Centran for Its Verified Use?
  • Precisely registered role: the verified crop-target scope is paddy stem borer and rice leaf folder.
  • Two classified modes of action: the formulation combines IRAC Group 28 and Group 2B.
  • Granular field application: the registered direction is uniform broadcasting after mixing with sand, without preparing spray water.
  • Verified area rate: the Indian major-use table gives 10 kg formulation per hectare.
  • Clearly defined harvest interval: 65 days must pass between the last Centran application and rice harvest.

Product scienceHow Centran Works
  1. Granule placement: the formulation is distributed over the paddy field according to the physical label's broadcasting directions.
  2. Group 28 action: Chlorantraniliprole modulates insect ryanodine receptors, disrupting calcium balance and normal muscle function.
  3. Group 2B action: Fipronil blocks GABA-gated chloride channels, disrupting normal nerve transmission in susceptible insects.

IIL marketing describes stronger roots, tiller growth and crop vigour. Do not present Centran as a fertilizer or promise yield, root development, greener crops, instant kill, a fixed residual period or control of resistant populations. Its verifiable purpose on this page is label-directed pest control.

CropTarget PestsActive Ingredient RateFormulation RateApplicationPHI

PHI means pre-harvest interval. The official IIL page separately displays “Dose - 4 kg” but does not print the area basis. Do not publish it as 4 kg/acre without confirming that wording on the current physical Centran label. Do not create a per-litre dose because Centran is broadcast as granules, not diluted for foliar spraying.

How to applyApplication and Resistance Stewardship
  • Scout paddy and confirm stem borer or leaf folder before deciding that a treatment is justified.
  • Measure the treated area accurately and apply 10 kg formulation per hectare, subject to the current physical label.
  • Mix the measured granules with sand and broadcast uniformly. The verified use table does not authorize mixing with urea, DAP or another fertilizer.
  • Follow the physical label for crop stage, field-water conditions, timing and PPE; the verified sources do not establish a universal 15-30-days-after-transplanting window or a fixed standing-water period.
  • Do not dissolve Centran as a foliar spray and do not tank mix it with an insecticide, fungicide, herbicide, nutrient or adjuvant.
  • Because Centran already contains Groups 28 and 2B, do not use another Group 28 or Group 2B product as the intended resistance-rotation step.
  • If another treatment is justified, separately apply a rice-label-authorized product from another effective group under its own rate, timing and restrictions.
Use with careSafety and Environmental Precautions
  • Wear all protective clothing and personal protective equipment required by the current physical label. Avoid breathing dust and prevent skin or eye contact.
  • Do not eat, drink, smoke or chew while handling or broadcasting granules. Wash exposed skin and contaminated clothing after use.
  • The Registration Committee states that this formulation is highly toxic to aquatic organisms, freshwater fish and honeybees, with long-lasting effects.
  • Avoid use near aquaculture and do not use in rice-fish farming systems. Prevent granules, field drainage, spillages and containers from entering ponds, canals or other water.
  • Do not apply while bees are actively foraging. Prevent drift or movement outside the treated area.
  • Observe the 65-day pre-harvest interval. A numerical re-entry interval was not verified, so follow the current physical label and local authority directions.
  • Store locked in the original labelled pack, away from food, feed and children's reach. Never reuse an empty pesticide container.
Use with careSafety and Disclaimer

Always read and follow the current physical Centran label and leaflet before use. If exposure or illness occurs, stop work, move away from exposure, seek medical help promptly and take the pack or label. Do not publish or follow unverified antidote or self-treatment instructions. The physical label and applicable Indian or state authority directions are the final authority for crop, target, dose, application, timing, PPE, first aid, storage, disposal and environmental restrictions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which crop and pests are registered for Centran?

The verified registration is paddy/rice for stem borer and leaf folder only. Termites, root grubs, root weevils, sugarcane and other crops are not verified Centran uses.

What is the verified Centran dose?

The Indian major-use table gives 10 kg formulation per hectare. IIL's page shows “Dose - 4 kg” without an area basis, so check the current physical label before stating an acre rate.

How is Centran applied?

The registered direction is broadcasting after mixing with sand. It is not a foliar spray, and the verified table does not authorize mixing with urea or another fertilizer.

What is the waiting period before harvest?

Allow at least 65 days between the last Centran application and rice harvest.

Can Centran be used in rice-fish fields?

No such use should be recommended. The Registration Committee warns of high toxicity to aquatic organisms and freshwater fish and says the product should be avoided near aquaculture.

Does Centran prevent resistance?

No guarantee is valid. It already contains Groups 28 and 2B; resistance stewardship requires scouting, label compliance and a different effective group when a later treatment is justified.
