FMC Centaurus Fungicide: Product Overview

FMC Centaurus is a contact-and-systemic fungicide containing Tebuconazole 6.7% w/w + Captan 26.9% w/w SC. It is not an insecticide. Mana Agri Mart offers 250 ml, 500 ml and 1 litre variants.

The two active ingredients act at different fungal sites. Tebuconazole is a systemic triazole in FRAC Group 3, while Captan is a multi-site contact phthalimide in FRAC Group M04. FMC describes Centaurus as providing protective and curative activity when it is used according to the current label.

The Indian label lists only chilli and apple uses. Crop, disease, formulation rate, water volume, timing, re-entry period, PHI and repeat use must remain tied to the matching label row.

Why farmers choose itWhy Choose Centaurus?
  • Verified FMC identity: the official product record confirms Tebuconazole 6.7% + Captan 26.9% w/w SC.
  • Contact and systemic action: Captan protects treated surfaces while Tebuconazole is absorbed into vegetative tissue and moves acropetally.
  • Two FRAC groups: Group 3 DMI activity is combined with Group M04 multi-site contact activity.
  • Defined disease uses: the label covers named diseases in chilli and apple rather than an unsupported universal crop list.
  • Clear application directions: the government label supplies dose, water, stage, re-entry, PHI and spray-frequency information.

Product scienceHow Centaurus Works
  1. Captan surface protection: the M04 phthalimide component acts at multiple fungal sites and inhibits processes involved in spore germination and respiration.
  2. Tebuconazole systemic action: the Group 3 DMI component inhibits fungal sterol biosynthesis and moves acropetally in plant xylem.
  3. Resistance stewardship: a fixed premix is not proof that resistance is impossible. Do not repeatedly rely only on products containing Group 3 or M04. Any program alternative must have a different effective FRAC group and its own Indian label for the same crop and disease.
How to applyRegistered Crops, Diseases, Dose and PHI
CropTarget Disease(s)Formulation DoseWaterRe-entryPHI
ChilliPowdery mildew and anthracnose1000 ml/ha500 L/ha24 hours5 days
ApplePowdery mildew, Alternaria leaf spot/blight and scab1550 ml/ha, or 0.25% / 2.5 ml per litre as shown on the label10 L/tree24 hours10 days

PHI = pre-harvest interval. The label also expresses the apple active dose as 124 + 496 g/ha or 0.02% + 0.08%. Keep the apple tree-water direction and concentration together. Do not apply the apple per-litre expression as a universal chilli or tank dose.

How to applyApplication Guidance
  • Timing: apply at the vegetative stage and at disease appearance, following the current label. The label lists 2-3 sprays based on disease pressure; do not make these automatic calendar sprays.
  • Mixing: dilute the measured quantity in clean water and mix thoroughly into the full water volume required for the treated area or trees.
  • Equipment: use a knapsack or foot sprayer fitted with a hollow-cone nozzle for foliar application.
  • Conditions: apply only in favourable weather and avoid extreme conditions. Obtain even coverage without drift.
  • No implied mixtures: no universal tank-mix, oil or fertilizer compatibility claim is made. Recommendation cards are standalone alternatives.
Use with careSafety and Handling
  • Wear chemical-resistant gloves, protective clothing, eye protection and suitable respiratory protection while measuring, mixing and spraying.
  • Avoid inhalation and contact with skin, eyes and mouth. Do not eat, drink or smoke during handling. Wash after use and change contaminated clothing.
  • Keep the product locked in its original container, away from children, animals, food, feed, heat and open flame.
  • Do not use in areas where pisciculture or aquaculture is practised. Do not use on unlisted crops or for post-harvest application.
  • If exposure or symptoms occur, seek medical attention and show the current label. The label states that there is no specific antidote; treatment is symptomatic under medical supervision.
Use with careSafety Disclaimer

Always read and follow the current official FMC Centaurus label and leaflet. The physical pack is the final authority for crop, disease, dose, water volume, timing, frequency, re-entry, PHI, PPE, first aid, environmental precautions, storage and disposal. This page does not replace the label, local regulation or qualified agronomic advice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Centaurus an insecticide?

No. FMC and the Indian label identify it as a fungicide.

What is the correct spelling?

The official FMC trade name is Centaurus.

Can it be used on tomato or potato?

Those crops are not on the cited Centaurus label. Use only the chilli and apple directions on the current pack.

Is there one dose per litre for every crop?

No. Chilli has a hectare rate and water volume; the apple label includes a tree-water direction and concentration. Keep the directions separate.
