Rallis Captaf Fungicide: Product Overview

Rallis Captaf is a wettable-powder contact fungicide containing Captan 50% w/w WP. The approved Indian label lists it for specific fungal diseases in grapes, potato, cherry, tomato and apple.

Captaf is classified by FRAC as Group M04, a phthalimide fungicide with multi-site contact activity. As a contact product, it depends on a properly mixed spray and thorough coverage of the target crop surface. It should not be presented as a systemic, curative or eradicant fungicide.

All five registered rows use the same hectare direction: 1.25 kg active ingredient/ha, equal to 2.5 kg formulation/ha, diluted in 750-1000 L water/ha. The label calls for foliar application using a high-volume sprayer, with 1-2 sprays depending on disease pressure. Do not turn these directions into an unsupported universal per-litre, per-pump or per-acre dose.

Why farmers choose itWhy Choose Captaf?
  • Verified formulation: Captan 50% w/w in a wettable-powder formulation.
  • Contact multi-site classification: FRAC places Captan in Group M04.
  • Five label-listed crops: grapes, potato, cherry, tomato and apple.
  • Specified disease uses: downy mildew, early and late blight, brown rot and apple scab, matched crop by crop.
  • Clear application table: the official label supplies formulation rate, water volume, crop stage, re-entry period and spray frequency.

Product scienceHow Captaf Works
  1. Contact placement: the spray deposit remains on treated plant surfaces rather than moving systemically through the crop.
  2. Multi-site activity: FRAC classifies Captan in M04, indicating contact activity at multiple fungal sites rather than one single target site.
  3. Coverage-dependent protection: correct dilution, agitation, calibrated equipment and uniform high-volume coverage are important for a contact wettable powder.
  4. Resistance stewardship: multi-site classification does not justify claims that resistance is impossible. Follow the label and use a crop- and disease-appropriate programme.

PHI = pre-harvest interval. A dash on the source label means no numerical PHI is stated; it must not be rewritten as zero days. The physical Indian pack label is the final authority.

How to applyApplication Guide
  • Apply as a foliar spray using a high-volume sprayer, from the vegetative to reproductive crop stage.
  • Use the recommended dose and dilute it in the full 750-1000 L water/ha. Keep the wettable powder uniformly suspended during application.
  • The label directs application as soon as disease appears, preferably in the morning or evening.
  • Use 1-2 foliar sprays depending on disease pressure. Do not invent a fixed interval where the label does not provide one.
  • Do not spray during rainy, windy or hot sunny conditions. Do not apply during crop maturity or just before harvest.
  • Do not use on crops or diseases outside the registered table. Avoid use near aquaculture.
Useful detailsResistance Management and Recommendations
  • FRAC classifies Captan as M04. Multi-site fungicides are valuable tools, but the classification is not a guarantee that resistance can never develop.
  • Choose any alternate fungicide only where its own Indian label covers the same crop and disease. Match dose, water, timing and PHI to that separate label.
  • The Related items below contain Captan and are similarity alternatives, not mode-of-action rotations.
  • The Upsell items are mechanism-distinct standalone alternatives for selected label-matched downy mildew or blight uses. They are not tank-mix instructions and should not be applied simultaneously merely because they are displayed together.
Use with careSafety and Environmental Precautions
  • Wear the protective clothing and equipment specified on the current label while mixing and spraying. Avoid inhalation and contact with skin and eyes.
  • Do not eat, drink, smoke or chew during application. Wash the body and contaminated clothing thoroughly after use.
  • The label warns of skin, eye and upper-respiratory irritation; nausea, vomiting and headache may occur. Seek medical attention after suspected exposure and show the label.
  • No specific antidote is listed; treatment is symptomatic and supportive under medical supervision.
  • Captan 50% WP is toxic to fish and other aquatic animals, toxic to bees, and hazardous to earthworms and other beneficial arthropods. Keep it away from water bodies and avoid application while bees are actively foraging.
  • Store locked in the original labelled container in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place away from children, food and animal feed.
