How It Works: Mode of Action
Bavistin contains carbendazim, a FRAC Group 1 fungicide. It disrupts the division of susceptible fungal cells.
- Systemic treatment reaches susceptible fungi: The active ingredient works within treated plant material.
- Fungal cell division is disrupted: The fungus cannot build the internal structures needed for normal cell division.
- Disease growth is checked: This supports the product’s preventive and curative activity when the correct programme is used.
Resistance to Group 1 fungicides is known in many fungal species. Do not rely on repeated Group 1 treatments alone; use suitable crop hygiene, disease monitoring and an approved resistance-management plan.
Target Crops & Pests
Match the named crop, disease and treatment route. Seed dressing, treatment of planting material and treatment of standing crops are different programmes.

Dosage & Application Guide
¹ Seed treatment is the manufacturer’s wet-slurry programme for paddy sheath blight, wheat or barley loose smut, and jute seedling blight. Its 2 g product/kg seed and 1 L water/10 kg seed quantities are seed-based, not acre or per-litre field-spray rates.
² Tree references cover apple, walnut and ber. Their separate manufacturer concentration figures below do not establish treatment timing or route. Other field-crop numerical references are kept below with their complete product–water pairs.
Dosage per Acre, Litre, & Pre-Harvest Interval (PHI)
| Crop | Dose (g / Acre) | Water (L / Acre) | Dose (g / Litre) | PHI (Days) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Seed treatment¹ | 2 g/kg seed Not per acre |
1 L/10 kg seed Not per acre |

Carbendazim 50% WP formulation references only, not complete Bavistin directions: paddy blast, 250–500 g product/ha with 750 L water/ha, approximately 101.2–202.3 g product with 303.5 L water per acre. The separate paddy “aerial phase” entry must not be used without a precise disease and route on the supplied pack.
Cotton leaf spot: 250 g/ha with 750 L water/ha, approximately 101.2 g with 303.5 L water per acre. Groundnut tikka leaf spot: 225 g/ha with 750 L water/ha, approximately 91.1 g with 303.5 L water per acre.
Sugar beet leaf spot or powdery mildew: 200 g/ha with 400 L water/ha, approximately 80.9 g with 161.9 L water per acre. Pea powdery mildew: 250 g/ha with 600 L water/ha, approximately 101.2 g with 242.8 L water per acre.
Cucurbit powdery mildew or anthracnose, brinjal leaf spot or fruit rot, and grape anthracnose each have the formulation reference 300 g/ha with 600 L water/ha, approximately 121.4 g with 242.8 L water per acre. Use each only for its own crop and disease.
Cluster-bean powdery mildew has a formulation reference of 350 g/ha with 750 L water/ha, approximately 141.6 g with 303.5 L water per acre. This is not a recommendation for every bean crop; the supplied Bavistin pack must explicitly include cluster bean.
The apple, walnut and ber formulation records pair their respective 2.5 g, 3 g and 10 g product quantities with 10 L water per tree. This tree basis must not be converted to an acre dose. Crystal’s respective concentration figures are apple 2.5 g/10 L water, walnut 3 g/10 L water and ber 10 g/10 L water; route and timing still need the supplied directions.
* Numerical harvest and re-entry intervals are not established here. A missing interval does not mean immediate harvest or entry. Do not use the field or fruit references until the supplied Bavistin pack confirms the whole crop, disease, route, dose, water and timing programme.
Tapioca sett rot and rose powdery mildew require the supplied pack’s concentration and method before treatment. No rate for these two programmes is given here. Do not extend the four-crop seed-treatment method to other crops or to the paddy blast programme.
How to Apply: Best Practices
- Specified seed treatment: For paddy sheath blight, wheat or barley loose smut, and jute seedling blight, the manufacturer specifies wet-slurry treatment at 2 g product/kg seed using 1 L water/10 kg seed. Apply only to seed intended for planting and follow the supplied coating and drying directions.
- Keep treated seed separate: Do not use pesticide-treated seed for food, feed or oil extraction. Keep it clearly identified and away from untreated food or feed.
- Other crop treatments: Confirm the crop-specific method, stage, product unit, water and waiting periods on the current pack. Do not use seed-treatment instructions as standing-crop spray instructions.
- Mixtures: A general compatibility statement does not approve every tank mix. Use only mixtures supported by the supplied directions; a jar test alone is not proof of crop safety.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Bavistin a seed treatment or a crop fungicide? It has both types of listed use. Paddy, wheat, barley and jute have a specific wet-slurry seed-treatment programme. Other crop uses need their own dose and application directions.
What is the seed-treatment rate? For the four specified seed treatments, Crystal gives 2 g product/kg seed with 1 L water/10 kg seed. These are seed-based quantities, not acre or field-spray rates.
Can I use the same dose for all crops? No. Seed, tree, concentration and field-area rates are different. Match the crop, disease and application route before measuring.
Does the bean entry cover every bean crop?Do not assume that. The generic numerical reference is specifically for cluster bean; use it only if the supplied Bavistin label explicitly supports that crop and programme.
Does curative activity restore damaged leaves or fruit? No restoration claim is made. It refers to controlling susceptible fungal growth under the correct treatment conditions. Use disease monitoring and resistance-management measures as well.
