BASF Basta: Product Overview
BASF Basta is a non-selective, post-emergence contact herbicide containing Glufosinate-Ammonium 13.5% w/w SL. Its verified Indian uses are control of listed annual and perennial weeds in tea and cotton.
Basta belongs to HRAC/WSSA Group 10 (legacy HRAC H). Glufosinate-ammonium inhibits the plant enzyme glutamine synthetase. Ammonia then accumulates in susceptible weed cells, causing cell injury, necrotic symptoms and eventual withering. BASF notes that the onset of visible symptoms varies with weed species and environmental conditions, so a fixed result time should not be promised.
Because Basta is non-selective, it can damage green crop tissue that receives spray. In tea, BASF specifically directs the use of a spray shield to prevent drift onto the tea plants. Treat only the target weed foliage with calibrated equipment, keep the spray off the crop and follow the current physical label.
