Dhanuka Barrier Metribuzin Herbicide for Registered Crop Weeds

Dhanuka Barrier contains Metribuzin 70% WP, a selective herbicide registered in India for specified weeds in soybean, wheat, sugarcane, potato and tomato.

Metribuzin is absorbed mainly through roots and also through leaves. HRAC classifies it in Group 5: photosystem-II D1 Serine-264 binders. It interrupts photosynthetic electron transport in susceptible weeds. Barrier may be used pre-emergence or post-emergence only where the crop-specific directions below permit that timing.

Use-scope warning: dose and timing are not interchangeable between crops. Do not convert a hectare rate into a universal grams-per-litre dose or use Barrier on an unlisted crop or weed. The current Barrier label overrides this page.

Why farmers choose itWhy Choose Barrier?
  • Verified five-crop scope: the Indian major-use table publishes crop-specific directions.
  • Mixed weed spectrum: the registered lists include annual grasses, broadleaf weeds and selected sedges; control is limited to the weeds named for each crop.
  • Root and leaf uptake: Metribuzin can act through treated soil or emerged foliage according to the labelled application window.
  • Clear resistance group: Group 5 identification helps growers distinguish same-active substitutes from genuine different-mode rotation options.
  • Defined harvest intervals: the official table publishes PHIs from 30 to 120 days depending on crop.

Product scienceHow It Works
  1. Uptake: susceptible weeds absorb Metribuzin predominantly through roots and also through foliage.
  2. Movement: the active ingredient moves upward through the xylem toward leaves and growing tissue.
  3. Photosynthesis inhibition: Group 5 action blocks electron transport at photosystem II, stopping energy production in susceptible weeds.

Repeated Group 5 use can select resistant weed populations. Another Metribuzin 70% WP brand is a same-mode substitute, not a resistance-management rotation.

How to applyDosage, Water, Timing and PHI

Use the official hectare recommendation. A grams-per-litre value is deliberately omitted because water volume varies by crop and use.

Crop and timingFormulation doseWaterPHI
Soybean — timing is not stated in this PPQS table; follow the current pack0.5–0.75 kg/ha750–1000 L/ha30 days
Wheat — timing is not stated in this PPQS table; rate depends on soil0.25 kg/ha on medium soil; 0.30 kg/ha on heavy soil500–750 L/ha120 days
Sugarcane, pre-emergence — first workable spray condition or 3–5 days after planting (DAP)1.5–3.0 kg/ha750–1000 L/ha60 days
Sugarcane, post-emergence — 25–30 DAP1.5–2.0 kg/ha750–1000 L/ha60 days
Potato — pre-emergence at 3–4 DAP, or after emergence only until the first plants reach 5 cm0.75 kg/ha750–1000 L/ha30 days
Tomato — one week before transplanting, or 15 days after transplanting (DAT)0.75 kg/ha750–1000 L/ha30 days

PHI means pre-harvest interval. DAP means days after planting and DAT means days after transplanting. Do not shorten the crop-specific PHI.

How to applyApplication Best Practices
  • Prepare a slurry: mix the measured wettable powder with a small amount of clean water to form a smooth thin paste, then add it slowly to the required water while stirring.
  • Use suitable equipment: apply evenly with a knapsack or foot-operated sprayer fitted with a flat-fan or flood-jet nozzle.
  • Avoid overlap and drift: overlapping swaths can overdose the crop; keep spray away from neighbouring fields and water bodies.
  • Protect the treated layer: for pre-emergence use, prepare a clod-free field and do not disturb the soil after application.
  • No inferred mixtures: this page does not recommend combining Barrier with another herbicide, pesticide, fertiliser or adjuvant. Related and rotation products are separate alternatives.
Use with careSafety and Storage

Wear full protective clothing, chemical-resistant gloves, eye protection and a suitable mask while measuring, mixing and spraying. Avoid skin and eye contact and inhalation of powder or spray mist. Do not eat, drink, smoke or chew during application. Wash exposed skin and contaminated clothing after work. Keep the original sealed pack under lock and key, away from children, food, animal feed and water. Prevent drift, runoff, surplus spray and equipment washings from reaching ponds, canals or drains. Do not reuse the empty container. After suspected exposure, move away from the source, follow the pack first-aid directions and obtain medical attention with the label. No specific antidote is listed for Metribuzin 70% WP; treatment is symptomatic and supportive under medical supervision.

Useful detailsImportant Disclaimer

Always read and follow the current official Barrier label and local regulatory instructions. The pack label overrides this page. Use only on the labelled crop, weeds, rate, water volume, timing and safety conditions. Mana Agri Mart does not recommend off-label use or an unverified tank mixture.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which crops are verified for Barrier in this guide?

Soybean, wheat, sugarcane, potato and tomato only.

Is Barrier a pre- or post-emergence herbicide?

It can be either, but only within the crop-specific label window. Sugarcane, potato and tomato timings are listed above.

No. Rates vary from 0.25 kg/ha in medium-soil wheat to as much as 3.0 kg/ha for one sugarcane pre-emergence use.

Which nozzle should be used?

Use a flat-fan or flood-jet nozzle and avoid overlapping spray swaths.
