PI Industries Awkira Pyroxasulfone 85% WG Pre-Emergence Herbicide
HerbicidesPI Industries Awkira Herbicide: Product Overview
PI Industries Awkira contains Pyroxasulfone 85% in a water-dispersible granule formulation. It is a selective pre-emergence herbicide for weeds registered in wheat, maize and soybean.
PI positions Awkira particularly for the management of resistant Phalaris minor in wheat. The Government of India PPQS major-use table also records the Pyroxasulfone 85% WG formulation for defined weed species in maize and soybean. This page retains those crop-specific registrations and does not extend the product to an unlisted crop or weed.
Awkira acts before susceptible weed seedlings establish. Correct timing, a level and clod-free seedbed, uniform soil-surface coverage and the label water volume are therefore central to performance. It is not presented here as a treatment for already established weeds.

7 topicsWhat stands outVerified Product Features
- Pre-emergence timing: PI directs application within 0–3 days of sowing.
- Registered crop scope: the Government table lists wheat, maize and soybean with named target weeds.
- Low formulation rate: all three registered rows use 150 g formulation/ha, equal to 127.5 g active ingredient/ha.
- Defined water guidance: PPQS lists 500 L water/ha, while PI states 200 L water/acre for soil-surface coverage.
- Classified mode of action: Pyroxasulfone is HRAC/WSSA Group 15, the group that inhibits very-long-chain fatty-acid synthesis.

Product scienceHow Awkira Works
PI explains that Pyroxasulfone reduces the biosynthesis of very-long-chain fatty acids and inhibits elongation steps catalysed by VLCFA elongases. These fatty acids are important to normal growth of emerging weed seedlings. The product is consequently used on the soil before the registered weeds emerge.
HRAC Global places Pyroxasulfone in Group 15, with legacy code K3. A mode-of-action number supports resistance planning but is not itself an application recommendation. Avoid repeated reliance on one group. Where a different herbicide is agronomically required, use a separately applied product whose own Indian label covers the crop, weed and application stage. No recommendation on this page is a tank-mix instruction.
How to applyRegistered Crops, Weeds, Dose, Water and PHI
| Crop | Registered target weeds | Formulation dose/ha | Water/ha | PHI |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wheat | Phalaris minor | 150 g | 500 L | 131 days |
| Maize | Echinochloa crus-galli , Eleusine indica and Phyllanthus niruri | 150 g | 500 L | 103 days |
| Soybean | Echinochloa colona , Celosia argentea , Trianthema portulacastrum , Amaranthus viridis and Digera arvensis | 150 g | 500 L | 94 days |
PHI = pre-harvest interval. All three PPQS rows state 127.5 g active ingredient/ha and 150 g formulation/ha. PI states 200 L water/acre. Retain the official units and do not invent a universal pump or per-litre dose.
How to applyApplication Guidance
- Apply within 0–3 days of sowing to a uniform, well-prepared field that is free from large clods and residues of the previous crop.
- Use a knapsack sprayer or suitable boom fitted with a flat-fan nozzle and obtain even coverage of the soil surface.
- Use the recommended water quantity. PI states 200 L/acre and advises the first irrigation at 21 days after sowing for all soil types.
- Do not apply during high wind. PI also advises against walking on the wet field after irrigation because disturbed soil can permit weed germination.
- Do not use metallic utensils to prepare the stock solution. Do not apply Awkira as a sand mix or fertiliser mix.
Use with careSafety and Handling
- PI directs users to wear a mask, goggles, gloves, boots and other proper protective clothing while handling and applying the product.
- Do not eat, drink or smoke during application. Wash hands and contaminated clothing with soap and plenty of water afterwards.
- Avoid contamination of air and water bodies. Store and dispose of the product and empty pack exactly as the current label directs.
- PI states that no specific antidote is known and symptomatic treatment should be provided. In an exposure incident, seek medical help and show the current label.
Use with careSafety Disclaimer

Frequently Asked Questions
When should Awkira be applied?
PI directs application within 0–3 days of sowing, before the registered weeds emerge.
What is the Awkira dose?
The PPQS table states 150 g formulation/ha in 500 L water/ha for wheat, maize and soybean. Follow the current pack as the final authority.
Which weeds are registered?
The exact weed list differs by crop. Match the intended crop and weed to the table above rather than using a broad “all weeds” claim.
Can Awkira be mixed with fertiliser or sand?
PI specifically says not to apply it as a sand mix or fertiliser mix.
Can Awkira be tank-mixed with another herbicide?
No universal compatibility claim is made. Related and rotation items are standalone alternatives, not tank-mix partners.
