IIL Atrazine 50% WP – Verified Product Information

IIL Atrazine 50% WP is a selective herbicide for pre-emergence weed control in the registered crops maize and sugarcane. The label application window is narrow: one spray within three days after sowing or planting. Correct field measurement, crop-specific rate, water volume and even placement are therefore more important than the size of the pack.

Atrazine is a triazine herbicide that inhibits photosystem II in susceptible weeds. It is placed in HRAC/WSSA Group 5 (legacy HRAC C1). The mode-of-action code helps users avoid repeated reliance on one chemistry, but it does not authorize use in an unlisted crop such as sorghum.

The product is placed soon after planting, before the listed weeds become established. Germinating susceptible weeds take up Atrazine from the treated zone. Photosystem II inhibition then prevents normal energy production and growth. A uniform application can reduce early weed pressure, but skips, overlaps, unsuitable moisture or late spraying may reduce control or crop selectivity.

The label specifies only one application. If weeds escape, identify the species and reason for escape instead of automatically repeating Atrazine or increasing the dose.

How to applyPractical Application Checklist
  • Verify maize or sugarcane, the target weed spectrum and the treated hectare area.
  • Calculate the formulation quantity from the crop-specific label rate; a 500 g pack is not automatically an acre dose.
  • Wear label-specified PPE and prevent dust inhalation while measuring.
  • Dilute in clean water according to the leaflet and use the full 500–700 L/ha spray volume.
  • Use calibrated high-volume equipment with a flat-fan or flood-jet nozzle, as described on the label.
  • Avoid rainy, windy or hot sunny weather, drift, runoff and use near aquaculture.
  • Keep people and animals away for at least 24 hours after application.

Repeated Group 5 use can favour resistant weed populations. Combine chemical control with clean seed, crop rotation, timely cultivation where suitable, field scouting and prevention of weed seed return.
