Product details
Atabron Insecticide by UPL
Chlorfluazuron 5.4% w/w EC. An insect growth regulator for the labelled caterpillars in cabbage and cotton.
What it controls: Diamondback moth and tobacco caterpillar in cabbage; American bollworm and tobacco caterpillar in cotton.
When to use it: For these caterpillar problems, with the crop-specific spray rate and harvest interval.
What to include: Measure the crop area, product and water; wear the protective equipment specified on the pack.
Why Choose This Product? Key Benefits
- 🐛Caterpillar-focused control: Chlorfluazuron acts on insect growth rather than functioning as a general treatment for every insect pest.
- 🥬Cabbage protection: The label covers diamondback moth and tobacco caterpillar on cabbage.
- 🌿Cotton protection: The label covers American bollworm and tobacco caterpillar on cotton.
- 🧬Growth-regulating action: Its Group 15 action interferes with chitin formation needed for normal insect development.
- 💧Sprayable liquid: The measured EC formulation is mixed with water for thorough crop coverage using a suitable sprayer.

How It Works: Mode of Action
Chlorfluazuron belongs to IRAC Group 15, the benzoylurea insect growth regulators.
- Chitin formation is affected: The active ingredient interferes with chitin biosynthesis associated with chitin synthase 1 (CHS1).
- Moulting is disrupted: Chitin is part of the insect cuticle. Disrupting its formation prevents normal development of the new outer covering during moulting.
- Larval development fails: Susceptible caterpillars cannot complete normal growth and moulting, resulting in control of the labelled pests.
Use the mode-of-action group when planning resistance management. Changing brands without changing the active-ingredient group is not a rotation. Follow label limits and local integrated pest-management advice.

Dosage & Application Guide
Each row is a separate foliar-spray recommendation. Keep its product dose, water volume and harvest interval together.
Dosage per Acre, Litre, & Pre-Harvest Interval (PHI)
| Crop | Dose (ml / Acre) | Water (L / Acre) | Dose (ml / Litre) | PHI (Days) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cabbage | Approx. 607.0 1500 ml/ha |
Approx. 202.3 500 L/ha |
See note* | 7 |
| Cotton | Approx. 607.0–809.4 1500–2000 ml/ha |
Approx. 202.3 500 L/ha |
See note* | 10 |
Acre figures are approximate conversions of the hectare directions shown beneath them. Measure the treated area accurately.
*The leaflet gives area-based product and water quantities, not a separate per-litre rate. No per-litre or tank dose has been calculated. PHI is the minimum time between the last spray and harvest.
How to Apply: Best Practices
- Application route: Apply as a crop spray for the listed crop and caterpillar only. The leaflet specifies a knapsack or compression-knapsack sprayer.
- Mixing: Mix the measured product with a small amount of water, then add the remaining water with thorough agitation.
- Coverage: Use the full crop-specific water volume for thorough crop coverage. Do not replace an area dose with an assumed tank dose.
- Harvest interval: Wait at least 7 days after the last cabbage spray and 10 days after the last cotton spray before harvest.
- After spraying: Clean the sprayer and utensils thoroughly as directed, without allowing rinsate to pollute water.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Atabron used for?It is labelled for diamondback moth and tobacco caterpillar in cabbage, and American bollworm and tobacco caterpillar in cotton.
What is the Atabron dose per acre?Cabbage: approximately 607.0 ml/acre. Cotton: approximately 607.0–809.4 ml/acre. Both use approximately 202.3 L water/acre. Original label rates are retained in the table.
Is the harvest waiting period the same for both crops? No. It is 7 days for cabbage and 10 days for cotton, counted from the last spray.
Is Atabron a general sucking-pest insecticide? The reviewed Indian leaflet lists the caterpillars shown above, not aphids or leafhoppers. Do not extend the crop or pest scope beyond the supplied label.
Can I use a single per-litre or tank rate? The leaflet specifies an area-based dose and water quantity. Use the paired crop row and measured area; no independent per-litre or tank recommendation is provided here.
