Nichino Akio Acaricide Overview

Nichino Akio is a specialist acaricide containing Fenpyroximate 5% EC. Its registered Indian uses cover specified mites in tea, chilli, cotton and coconut, with jassid control also registered in cotton.

Fenpyroximate is a phenoxypyrazole METI acaricide in IRAC Group 21A. It disrupts energy production in susceptible mites through contact and ingestion activity. Akio should not be marketed as a broad-spectrum systemic insecticide, and the crop-specific EC rates below must not be replaced with figures for a 5% SC formulation.

What stands outKey Product Features
  • Specialist mite control: Registered for label-listed mite species in tea, chilli, cotton and coconut.
  • Cotton jassid use: The cotton registration includes jassids as well as mites.
  • IRAC Group 21A: Mitochondrial Complex I electron-transport inhibitor chemistry.
  • Contact and ingestion action: Thorough coverage of mite habitat is important for foliar applications.
  • Crop-specific directions: Dose, water volume and PHI vary and must be followed exactly.

Product scienceHow Akio Works

Fenpyroximate inhibits mitochondrial electron transport at Complex I. Susceptible mites cannot produce the energy needed for normal movement, feeding and survival. Because Akio primarily depends on direct exposure and ingestion rather than systemic movement, foliar applications require careful sprayer calibration and uniform coverage, including leaf surfaces where mites are active.

Do not claim that Akio kills every life stage or guarantees a fixed duration of protection. Results vary with mite species, population stage, coverage, weather and local resistance. Where more than one treatment is permitted, rotate with an effective acaricide from a different IRAC group and follow local agronomic advice; do not tank mix merely because products are displayed together.

PHI means the minimum interval between the last application and harvest. Nichino also states 120–240 ml/acre for tea and chilli and 300 ml/acre for cotton. Use the current Akio label if it differs. The coconut root-feeding table is ambiguously formatted in the public registration source, so do not improvise the carrier, method or dose; check the physical pack leaflet.

How to applyApplication Best Practices
  • Confirm the formulation: These rates are for Fenpyroximate 5% EC, not 5% SC.
  • Scout first: Confirm the labelled mite or jassid target and treat at the timing directed on the current pack label.
  • Coverage: For foliar use, provide uniform coverage of the crop and mite habitat, including relevant leaf undersides, without excessive runoff.
  • Weather: Avoid application during rain, strong wind or very hot sunny conditions and prevent drift.
  • Coconut: Use only the exact root-feeding or foliar preparation printed on the current Akio label.
  • Resistance: Rotate with a registered acaricide from a different IRAC group where another treatment is permitted.
Use with careSafety and Disclaimer
