Agronil 80 Insecticide by AgroStar - 2 g

Agronil 80 contains fipronil 80% WG for crop-specific insect control by foliar spray. This listing is the 2 g pack.

What it controls: Rice stem borer and leaf folder, plus the separate crop-target uses listed below.

When to use it in rice: Start when stem-borer dead hearts or leaf-folder white stripes first appear; follow the rice programme below.

Keep formulations separate: Agronil 80 WG is not Agronil GR 0.3%. Do not interchange their quantities or application methods.

Why Choose This Product? Key Benefits

  • 🎯  Rice pest targeting: The rice use covers stem borer and leaf folder.
  • 🌿  Crop-specific scope: The leaflet also lists thrips in chilli, cotton, grapes and onion, and diamondback moth in cabbage.
  • 🔬  Defined active ingredient: Fipronil 80% WG belongs to IRAC Group 2B.
  • 💧  Foliar-spray formulation: Water-dispersible granules are intended for dilution and spraying, not the soil-broadcast route used for Agronil GR.

How It Works: Mode of Action

Fipronil affects nerve signalling in susceptible insects. Agronil 80 is described by AgroStar as acting through contact and ingestion.

  1. Contact and ingestion: Target insects may be exposed by contact with the treatment or by feeding.
  2. Nerve-signal disruption: Fipronil blocks GABA-gated chloride channels, disrupting normal nerve activity.
  3. Resistance-group awareness: Fipronil belongs to IRAC Group 2B. Changing the brand or formulation does not change this mode-of-action group.

Plan label-compliant resistance management with a qualified crop adviser. A shared active ingredient does not make different product rates, routes or crop directions interchangeable.

Target Crops & Pests

These are the crop-target pairs in the Agronil 80 leaflet. A numerical application programme is given below only for rice. For the other uses, obtain the complete crop-specific directions from the supplied pack and AgroStar before treatment.

Dosage & Application Guide

The following is the rice foliar-spray programme for stem borer and leaf folder. Quantities are for the formulated product, not pure fipronil. Do not transfer this programme to another crop or to Agronil GR.

Rice Dosage per Hectare, Acre & Pre-Harvest Interval (PHI)

Crop & Targets
Product Dose

PHI (Days)
Rice: stem borer
and leaf folder
50–62.5 g/ha
Approx. 20.2–25.3 g/acre
375–500 L/ha
Approx. 151.8–202.3 L/acre

The original label units are per hectare. Acre values are approximate conversions. Calibrate the sprayer to deliver both the product amount and water volume over the measured area. A 2 g pack is not a universal dose for one litre, one pump or one acre.

Rice timing: Give the first spray when stem-borer dead hearts or leaf-folder white stripes on leaves begin to appear. The leaflet allows 1–2 further rice sprays depending on severity. Do not treat this as a fixed repeat interval; follow the supplied pack and crop-adviser directions.

Harvest and re-entry: Allow at least 15 days between the final rice application and harvest. Follow the supplied pack’s separate re-entry directions; the harvest interval is not a re-entry period.

How to Apply: Best Practices

  • Identify the product: Match Agronil 80, fipronil 80% WG, your crop and the target pest. Do not use a GR soil-application programme.
  • Measure accurately: Use the crop-specific field rate and spray-water volume from the same label programme. Follow its mixing directions and never mix with bare hands.
  • Use suitable equipment: The leaflet specifies a hand-operated knapsack sprayer with a hollow-cone or triple-action nozzle.
  • Keep rice timing specific: Use the dead-heart and white-stripe timing only for the rice stem-borer and leaf-folder programme. Do not apply that trigger or repeat count to the other crops.
  • Protect pollinators: Do not use near beekeeping areas. Avoid application on blossoming onion.
  • Check mixtures first: Do not assume that every fungicide or pesticide is compatible. Use a mixture only when the current labels or authorised crop-specific guidance permit the exact combination. Avoid alkaline materials as directed by the safety data sheet.
  • Respect restrictions: Keep drift away from people, animals and water. Follow the label’s harvest, re-entry and repeat-treatment directions.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is Agronil 80 the same as Agronil GR?
No. Agronil 80 is fipronil 80% WG for foliar spraying. Agronil GR contains fipronil 0.3% GR for soil application. Their rates and methods are not interchangeable.
2. Can I put the whole 2 g pack in one spray pump?
Do not treat the pack as a pump-dose instruction. Measure the field area and use the matching product rate and water volume from the crop-specific label programme.
3. When should I spray it in rice?
Start when stem-borer dead hearts or leaf-folder white stripes appear. Any further treatment must follow the label and pest severity, not an invented fixed interval.
4. Can I spray onion while it is flowering?
Avoid application on blossoming onion. The leaflet also warns against use near beekeeping areas.
5. Is the rice harvest interval the same as re-entry?
No. Rice has a 15-day interval from final application to harvest. Follow the supplied label’s separate directions for returning to the treated field.

Safety & Disclaimer

Before you use it: Read and follow the supplied label and leaflet. Match the exact crop, pest, product quantity, water or field conditions, application method, timing and waiting periods. This overview does not replace the pack directions or qualified agricultural advice.

Wear the label-specified protective clothing, chemical-resistant gloves, boots, eye or face protection and respiratory protection. Avoid skin and eye contact and breathing dust or spray. Do not eat, drink, smoke or chew tobacco while handling. Wash thoroughly after use and wash contaminated clothing separately.

Keep children, animals and unprotected people away. Fipronil is toxic to birds, fish and aquatic invertebrates. Protect water bodies from drift, spills, surplus product and equipment washings. It is highly toxic to bees; do not use near beekeeping areas or on blossoming onion.

Store tightly closed in the original labelled container in a cool, dry, ventilated, locked place away from sunlight, food, feed, seeds and fertilisers. Do not reuse empty containers. Follow the supplied label and applicable local requirements for disposal. After exposure, seek medical help promptly and show the product container, label or safety data sheet.

Read the product directions leaflet and safety data sheet. The IRAC classification explains the mode-of-action group.
