ADAMA Agil Herbicide Overview

ADAMA Agil is a selective, systemic post-emergence herbicide containing Propaquizafop 10% EC. It is designed for control of label-listed annual and perennial grassy weeds in registered broadleaf crops.

Agil is absorbed through weed leaves and moves to growing points in shoots and roots. Best results are obtained when target grasses are actively growing at the 2–4 leaf stage. Use it only on a crop and weed combination listed on the current product label.

Product scienceHow Agil Works

Propaquizafop inhibits acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACCase), an enzyme needed by susceptible grasses to produce fatty acids for new growth. After foliar absorption, the active ingredient moves within the weed to growing tissues in leaves and roots. Growth is disrupted and susceptible grasses progressively decline. Visible response varies with weed species, growth stage, weather and application quality.

Because repeated use of the same mode of action can select resistant weeds, rotate with non-Group 1 weed-management methods permitted for the crop. Do not assume that a different brand name means a different resistance group.

Apply once at the 2–4 leaf stage of the target weeds for the label uses shown above. PHI means the minimum interval between the last application and harvest. Do not convert these rates to per-litre doses without using the label-specified spray volume.

Useful detailsOther Label-Listed Crops

ADAMA also lists Agil for crops including chickpea, chilli, cluster bean, cotton, groundnut, jute, sesamum and tomato. Use these crops only according to the current Agil pack leaflet because crop-specific directions, rates and waiting periods can differ.

How to applyApplication Best Practices
  • Timing: Treat young, actively growing grasses at the label-recommended crop timing. Avoid application during rain, strong wind or hot sunny conditions.
  • Mixing: Add the measured product to clean water as directed on the label and maintain uniform spray agitation. Do not tank mix unless every companion label permits it.
  • Coverage: Calibrate the sprayer and provide even coverage of weed foliage without drift onto neighbouring crops or water bodies.
  • Rain: ADAMA states that rainfall one hour after application does not affect activity; follow the current pack label if its direction differs.
  • Re-entry: Keep people and animals out of the treated area for at least 24 hours or for the longer interval stated on the current label.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What weeds does Agil control?

It targets susceptible annual and perennial grasses listed for the registered crop. It is not a broadleaf-weed herbicide.

2. When should Agil be applied?

The referenced label recommends application when target grasses are at the 2–4 leaf stage, with crop-specific timing followed carefully.

3. Can one dose be used for every crop?

No. Rates, water volumes and waiting periods are crop-specific. Use only the current pack leaflet for the intended crop.

4. Is Agil a contact herbicide?

No. It is absorbed through foliage and moves systemically towards growing points in susceptible grasses.

5. Can it be used near fish ponds?

No. The label identifies the product as toxic to fish and says it should not be used near aquaculture.
