Item description

Magna Insecticide by AgroStar | 100 ml

Magna combines flubendiamide and thiacloprid in a suspension concentrate for foliar control of the labelled chilli and rice pests. This listing is the 100 ml pack.

What it controls: Thrips and fruit borer in chilli; yellow stem borer and leaf folder in rice.

When to use it: Give the first spray when pest incidence reaches the economic threshold level. Base any further treatment on the pest population and the label.

What to include: Use the matching crop rate and water volume, suitable protective equipment, calibrated spray equipment and the crop-specific harvest interval.

Why Choose This Product? Key Benefits

  • 🎯  Two crop programmes: Separate directions cover the labelled chilli and rice pests.
  • 🌿  Two active ingredients: Combines flubendiamide and thiacloprid rather than a single-active insecticide.
  • 🔬  Distinct modes of action: IRAC groups 28 and 4A act at different insect targets.
  • 💧  Foliar formulation: The SC product is diluted in water for the labelled foliar application.

How It Works: Mode of Action

The two ingredients act on different insect nerve and muscle targets. This does not make Magna a treatment for every sucking or chewing pest.

  1. Flubendiamide: IRAC 28: A diamide and ryanodine receptor modulator that disrupts normal muscle function.
  2. Thiacloprid: IRAC 4A: A neonicotinoid and nicotinic acetylcholine receptor competitive modulator that disrupts nerve signalling.
  3. Crop-target matching: Use this combination only for the chilli and rice pests listed below, with the matching foliar programme.

Use both IRAC group numbers when planning rotations with a local agronomist. Changing the brand alone is not a change in mode of action, and a mixture does not remove the need for resistance management.

Target Crops & Pests

Keep each crop and its target pests paired with the corresponding dosage, water, method, timing and harvest interval. Do not extend these directions to tea, capsicum or other crops.

Apply as a foliar spray. Give the first spray as soon as pest incidence reaches the economic threshold level (ETL). The leaflet allows 1–2 more sprays depending on pest population; it does not specify a fixed number of days between them.

PHI is the waiting period from the last spray to harvest: 5 days for chilli and 33 days for rice. It is different from worker-entry timing. Follow the supplied label for entry and allow spray deposits to dry.

Acre figures are approximate conversions of the original hectare rates. Keep product volume and spray-water volume together; do not use pack size as a one-acre or one-tank dose.

These area-based directions are not a universal per-litre or per-pump recipe. Do not substitute the rate of a different brand, a different formulation or a single-active flubendiamide or thiacloprid product.

How to Apply: Best Practices

  • Identify the pest: Confirm the labelled crop and pest, scout the field and establish that the economic threshold has been reached before the first application.
  • Measure the area: Choose the corresponding crop programme and calibrate equipment for the required product and water volumes.
  • Mix carefully: Take a small quantity of water, add the measured product and mix thoroughly. Add the remaining water while stirring vigorously. Keep hands out of the spray mixture.
  • Use the specified equipment: Apply as a foliar spray using a knapsack sprayer fitted with a hollow-cone nozzle. Cover the crop evenly without excessive overlap.
  • Choose suitable conditions: Avoid spraying in very hot, windy or rainy conditions, or when foliage is wet. Do not spray against the wind.
  • Check any tank mix: AgroStar describes compatibility with commonly used fungicides, but this is not approval for every mixture. Follow both labels and obtain product-specific guidance for the proposed partner.
  • Respect repeat and harvest limits: Any 1–2 further sprays must depend on pest population and label directions. Keep 5 days before chilli harvest or 33 days before rice harvest.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Which crops and pests does Magna cover?
The Magna leaflet lists chilli for thrips and fruit borer, and rice for yellow stem borer and leaf folder. Do not transfer another brand’s tea or other-crop directions to this product.

2. When should the first spray be applied?
Start when pest incidence reaches the economic threshold level, not on an invented fixed crop age. The leaflet treats subsequent sprays separately: 1–2 more may be used depending on pest population.

3. How much product and water does the chilli programme use?
The original rate is 200–250 ml product with 500 L water per hectare, approximately 81–101 ml with 202 L per acre. Use the paired area-based directions, not a generic per-pump recipe.

4. Is the 100 ml pack a fixed one-acre dose?
No. 100 ml is the sale quantity. The required amount depends on the measured treatment area and crop programme. A smaller or larger pack does not change the formulation or directions.

5. How long must I wait before harvesting?
Leave 5 days after the last spray for chilli and 33 days for rice. A harvest interval is not a worker-entry interval; follow the supplied label for entry and other precautions.

Safety & Disclaimer

Before you use it: Read the current supplied pack label and leaflet. Match the crop, pest, formulation, rate, water, foliar method, first-application timing, harvest interval and all restrictions. This overview does not replace the label or authenticate an individual pack.

Wear the protective clothing and equipment required by the label, including suitable gloves, boots, a face mask and eye protection. Avoid contact with skin and eyes and avoid breathing spray mist. Do not eat, drink or smoke while handling. Wash exposed skin and contaminated clothing after use. Keep children, animals and unprotected people away.

The Magna safety data sheet identifies it as harmful if swallowed, suspected of causing cancer, and a reproductive hazard that may damage fertility and is suspected of damaging the unborn child. Minimise exposure and follow all protective instructions. It is very toxic to aquatic life with long-lasting effects: keep drift, spills and washings out of ponds, drains and waterways.

Store tightly closed in the original container in a cool, dry, ventilated and locked place, away from direct sunlight, food, animal feed and their containers. Keep away from ignition sources. Never reuse empty packaging; dispose of product, washings and packaging according to the label and local authorised requirements without contaminating soil or water.

If exposure or illness occurs, stop work, seek urgent medical help and show the container, label or safety data sheet. Do not induce vomiting. Rinse affected eyes with clean water, wash contaminated skin, and remove contaminated clothing.
